Actor laughs over ‘Brad Pitt for Mayor’ T-shirt push in New Orleans – Zap2it

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The idea of Brad Pitt running for New Orleans mayor has generated a lot of buzz around the city even though he isn’t eligible. It also generated some laughs for the actor in a Thursday television interview.

Many residents have been sporting “Brad Pitt for Mayor” T-shirts since mid-June, when a Tulane University professor and two brothers who own a New Orleans T-shirt shop joined forces to launch a quasi-campaign to convince Pitt to run. The actor founded the Make It Right organization in 2007 to build houses for low-income residents who lost their homes during Hurricane Katrina.

“He’s a family man, and you won’t have to worry about him being corrupt,” said Drew Cambre, 26, who works at a New Orleans pastry shop and has a “Brad Pitt for Mayor” sticker on his laptop computer. “Plus, he’ll help the movie industry here in New Orleans and keep a light on the city.”

Pitt said on NBC’s “Today” that he’s noticed the shirts but laughed off the idea of running.

“I don’t have a chance.”

He joked: “I’m running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalization and taxation of marijuana platform.”

My friend Andy tipped me off to this event that will be held in NOLA in July at one of my most favorite hotels…the Montelone.

“New Orleans, Louisiana is the annual host to the internationally acclaimed festival of cocktails, cuisine, and culture, Tales of the Cocktail. This event brings together the best and brightest of the cocktail community — award-winning mixologists, authors, bartenders, chefs, and designers — for a five-day celebration of the history and artistry of drink making. Each year offers a spirited series of dinners, demos, tastings, competitions, seminars, book signings, tours, and parties; all perfectly paired with some of the best cocktails ever made.

Tales of the Cocktail:

Wed, July 8th – Sun, July 12th”

Chelsea’s gets its liquor license back

May 5th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Louisiana (Where I'm From)

Chelsea’s Cafe will get its liquor license back after a district court judge found that the owner of the Perkins Road establishment was deprived due process. District Judge Trudy White says that the state office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control had no right to take away owner David Remmetter’s liquor license two weeks ago, before a hearing could be held. The move means Chelsea’s will have its license back within 72 hours. The establishment will hold on to the license until a trial can be held. The date for a trial will be set after Remmetter’s attorney Brandon Brown turns in a copy of White’s judgment; he has 72 hours. There has been a dispute between the ATC and Chelsea’s over the zoning status. The ATC says Remmetter is illegally operating a bar because he sells more alcohol than food. Remmetter charges that food sales account for 61% of his business.

Musicians Mark a Jazzfest Anniversary on an Easygoing Thursday – ArtsBeat Blog – NYTimes.com

NEW ORLEANS — Another year, another New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and another anniversary — the 40th — for this euphorically site-specific cultural guardian. I’m here for the second four-day “weekend” of Jazzfest, and I’ve been blinking in the sunlight after the wee-hours club marathon of the Ponderosa Stomp.

True to the New Orleans traditions that it collects and promotes — and that have long since added Jazzfest to their calendar of annual rituals — the festival makes only incremental changes from year to year. Even in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina, when the festival’s longtime site, the Fair Grounds Race Course, needed extensive repairs (including restoring its electrical system), it simulated its old familiarity; the Vaucresson Sausage Company sandwich stand was in its regular place, though its New Orleans factory had been destroyed.

Chelsea’s liquor license snatched for now

Chelsea’s Café’s this week will close at 10 p.m., and the live music has been cancelled.

Here’s the back story: The state office of Alcohol and Tobacco

Control raided the restaurant in January. After a court hearing (in March, the ATC told owner David Remmetter he needed to change his zoning status within 30 days. Remmetter says he took steps to get rezoning through the Metro Council, but the process usually takes 60 to 90 days (read Councilwoman Tara Wicker’s reaction and about the “Save Chelsea’s” groups that formed as a result.

On April 21 around 4 p.m., ATC agents returned to Chelsea’s this time to yank the restaurant’s liquor license. Remmetter says he tried contacting the ATC, but the office was already closed. The next day—after Remmetter says he left several phone messages with the ATC and couldn’t get any response—Judge Trudy White granted a temporary restraining order so Remmetter could keep his business open. This prompted the ATC to immediately take steps to have the restraining order dissolved.

[Chelsea's is one of my favorite places in Baton Rouge. It has everything. Good music, food, drink and cool people. Chelsea's supports LOTS of local artists, which gives money back to our community. They should have their liquor license AND live music. Period.]
